Another report I haven't yet verified: Shortly before the "Timon & Pumbaa" TV show premiered in September 1995, Disney Television ran an ad for the show in Entertainment Weekly that mentioned that they were "characters from The Jungle King". This suggests that
- The working title for "The Lion King" was "The Jungle King", which would be a reasonable alternate translation of the Japanese title for Kimba, usually translated as "Jungle Emperor".
- All traces of the origins of "The Lion King" were not cleanly wiped out--someone seems to have pulled an old file, containing the working title, to use for promo material. What else will come to light?
